Elective Abortions at ACCON
Elective abortions are available at ACCON from the earliest that a pregnancy can be confirmed by ultrasound until the fetus reaches viability.
It is usually about the fourth week after your last normal period that the pregnancy becomes visible to the ultrasound. Viability is much harder to define. The gestation that a fetus reaches viability varies for each pregnancy. Many factors other than gestation must be taken into account for the doctor to determine viability. In general fetal viability is not reached before the 22 week post conception.
When is the safest time to abort? In general the earlier you elect to terminate a pregnancy the safer, easier an less expensive the procedure is. Abortion is the most common and safest operative procedure performed in the United States. Although all complications that can happen during a term delivery can happen with abortion, at no time in the pregnancy does the risk of termination become greater than the risk of delivery. So if extra time is needed to be sure of your decision, it is a delay you need to take.
