Monday 1-13-03

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning by mentioning the death of Bee Gee Maurice Gibb.  He died after an intestinal operation over the weekend at the age of 53.  To celebrate his life, TnT played Bee Gees as their bumper music throughout today’s show.  TnT then spent some time talking about Saturday’s calendar signing event at the Lincoln Homers on Saturday.  Three hotties from the calendar joined the guys as they signed calendars for their fans.  Later in the show, Tyler told a story about how one of the guys in line had a bottle of lotion in his pocket.  That led everyone to believe he was going straight to his car for a whacking session after getting his calendar signed but it turned out that the guy had just returned from tanning and had forgotten to take his tanning lotion out of his pocket.

Speaking of the calendar, an angry listener pointed out to the guys that their calendar doesn’t have the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on it. Admitting an obvious oversight, the guys pointed out that his birthday was not left off of the calendar on purpose. The guys then spent some time discussing how every country seems to hate the United States, even those we bailed out from invasions during the Persian Gulf War and other countries that we bombed the hell out of and spent millions rebuilding afterwards. They wondered if any in the military get tired of hearing how bad the USA is and received a phone call or two from Bellevue confirming that they do. Todd and Tyler then played a little ‘’Where’d you eat this weekend?’’ and discussed last night’s disturbing spoon-up-the-butt scene on HBO’s ‘’OZ’’.

BW came in with the news a little later in the morning.  As he read through the stories from the weekend, TnT discussed each.  Brian wrapped up the newscast with a story of a murder case over in Japan where a woman hacked up a lady her man was cheating with.  After she admitted her deed to her man, the guy proposed to her, even though she’s going away to prison for a long time.  The story led to a discussion about crimes of passion.  Brian thought that there should be a 1-hour window after you find out you’ve been cheated on in which you should be able to get away with any crime you can imagine. Todd and Tyler, though, didn’t seem to like that idea at all.  They pointed to periods in their lives, namely the entire 80’s and parts of the early 90’s, where if such a window to commit a crime of passion had been possible, they’d have been killed countless times.  

After the news, Todd and Tyler kicked off Liberal Day by welcoming Tim Butz from the Nebraska ACLU to the studio. They also brought in Dr. LeRoy Carhart and his daughter. TnT discussed a variety of civil liberty issues with Mr. Butz including some of the activities of the ACLU in relation to the anti-gay 416 Bill, the Nebraska death penalty, how the Illinois governor just shut down their state’s death penalty, and much more.

Their conversation with Tim Butz carried over to their time with Dr. Carhart, as the ACLU has been on the same side of the abortion issue as the Dr..  TnT talked with Dr. Carhart about his practice, the counseling he gives those seeking an abortion before doing the procedure, and abortion stats in the state of Nebraska and across the country. They also covered some of the problems he’s had in Bellevue over the past few years. They talked of the arson that burned down his horse farm, discussed the daily protesters who have been trying to shut him down, and they also went over the problems he has when trying to buy the building he performs his service in.

The gang covered some of the alternatives to abortion such as using birth control in the first place, the RU486 abortion pill, and the Morning After pill, which is perscribable by doctors now. Todd and Tyler also opened up the phone lines to their listeners with questions or concerns for Dr. Carhart. Several people checked in to thank him for doing what he does but there were a few who didn’t have the same point of view on the abortion issue. One lady in particular seemed to be gathering details for a letter writing campaign during her call to the show.  No fanatical nuts bothered to phone in to call everyone in studio the Devil, although everyone seemed quite aware that they’re out there.

TnT made it a point to highlight the fact that no one in town has ever given Dr. Carhart a forum to discuss his service.  Local TV, other radio, and even the newspaper all seem to shy away from the subject and although Todd and Tyler don’t talk about it on their show every day, they felt it was time to give Dr. Carhart a voice and let him get his point of view out there.  Before letting them go, Todd and Tyler awarded Dr. Carhart with the 2001 Madmen of March trophy he won that has been sitting in their office for nearly 2 years.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in today with a commentary on getting dirty looks from women behind the counter at convenience stores when he goes in to buy dirty magazines. He also talked with TnT about the upcoming Blue Collar Tour movie, which tested over the weekend.  Larry said that 94% of the people polled upon leaving the film enjoyed it and said they’d suggest it to their friends. Larry also ranted about the ACLU for a bit, seeming a bit unprepared for an argument but he obviously got all wound up when TnT mentioned their guests of the morning. It was pretty funny stuff. I’m sure we’ll hear more from Larry as the week progresses so stay tuned.

Travis came in with this morning’s sports report late in the show. He was oddly silent during Todd and Tyler’s time with Mr. Butz and Dr. Carhart.  While discussing the sports stories of the weekend with TnT, he mentioned that he swung by the Bone to have a drink with Medicine Hat after a basketball game yesterday and later got the ‘’you’re never home’’ lecture from his wife.  TnT wondered when his wife would get around to giving him that lecture.  Trav’s For What It’s Worth should be on the KM3 10pm newscast tonight so check it out and see if he will piss you off.

J Medicine Hat from the Funny Bone stopped in this morning and hung out with the guys for a bit. He’s going to be doing his extra dirty x-rated show at the Bone this evening and you can get reservations by phoning 493-8036.  During his visit, Hat told Todd and Tyler that he’s thinking of going to Oregon with a buddy to do a ‘’Sun Dance’’ soon. J confirmed when TnT asked that the Sun Dance is where they hang you by the nipples and let you dangle from the ceiling. They had a pretty funny conversation about it up until the point where Hat mentioned that the only way to get down from the ceiling is by having your flesh rip.

BW returned later in the show with today’s e-news. During this point in the show is when Tyler mentioned the Homers lotion guy story. The guy actually called in to talk with TnT about his tanning and firm up the fact that he didn’t head out to his car to grind away on the old knob after getting his calendar signed.  BW also did an Obscure Dead Guy of the Day, which the gang followed up with a round of ‘’Would you lick that?’’
